Because my father didn’t want to teach me guitar at fifteen, I used his stubbornness as fuel and picked up the bass to teach myself. After about a year he bought me a guitar, and I learned to play through tabs and a lot of punk music. I never bothered with theory; I trained my ear and played by feel.

Over the years I’ve played in plenty of punk bands, but my love for death metal was always there. Since I was mainly a rhythm player, I used to think metal was too difficult for me—until I started Death Möth and realised all those years of practicing alone in my bedroom had actually paid off.

While playing gigs with Death Möth, I met Henk and we immediately hit it off. We even shared stages together (Death Möth & Nafearya), and I got to know the guys—we always had great chemistry. When I found out Nafearya needed a new guitarist, I didn’t hesitate for a second and asked for an audition. Just as I expected, we were a perfect fit—and the rest is history.
